Support and Tools for Families to Thrive
The 2Gen Family Engagement Program (2Gen) is a support program for Tacoma Housing families with school-aged youth.
2Gen emphasizes a two-generational approach to housing and family stability. The goal of the program is to create opportunities for families of elementary, middle, and high school students to learn about and practice Social Emotional Learning (SEL) together.

Through various community partnerships focused on SEL, mentoring, and family skills support, the program aims to increase resources access for families living in THA’s West Portfolio communities. THA will build a robust partnership infrastructure based on family wants and needs, and THA’s Education Specialist will provide academic support help if needed.
We Provide Support for Tacoma Housing Families
Child Focused with Parent Elements:
Early childhood development, parenting skills, family literacy, and health screenings.
Whole Family:
Parent & child focused. Support is needed not just for the child, but the whole family.
Parent Focused with Child Elements:
Childcare, workforce programs, food and nutrition, and supports for student’s parents.
Families will also have the opportunity to earn cash incentives by following through on core program features, such as completing a Family Goals Plan with a THA caseworker or completing goals listed in the Family Goals Plan.

2Gen Partners like the YMCA, KBTC and the Health Department will be available to provide mentorship programs, tutoring, social emotional learning.
Eligible Families Will:
- Have a household income of 80% Area Median Income or less
- Have at least 1 student in grades K-12
- Have goals to work on as a family
Youth Programming
Have you ever wanted to teach a cooking class, lead a basketball workshop, teach art or music lessons, or help put together a back-to-school event for youth in your community?
Let’s team up and make it happen! THA is offering financial stipends for residents who volunteer to create and host youth programming this summer.
We are looking for residents who can use their own unique talents to help our youth engage in fun and interesting activities on site. The possibilities are endless!
