We invest in the community to ensure there is affordable housing for a range of incomes. We build, and purchase properties that serve a range of needs and that are financially sustainable, environmentally innovative, and attractive.
We seek to encourage others to invest in neighborhoods that need investment. In the future, as the Tacoma real estate market continues to accelerate, the only affordable housing may be whatever Tacoma Housing Authority builds or purchases.
Community Building Project
THA’s Community Building Project is a resident-centered approach to community mobilization that increases community trust, initiates relationship-building opportunities, and facilitates resident connectedness while assessing unique community needs. THA Community Builder staff lead these efforts as they work closely with residents and community partners to build community by organizing and supporting on-site activities, events, and opportunities.
Tacoma Housing Authority is honored to have recently received a $2,500 grant from Verizon in support of THA’s Community Building project.
Whole Family Programming
THA Community Advocates and Community Builders look to our families to tell us what resources and support they need to thrive. Events and activities are provided at our buildings and in our neighborhoods for easy access and as a way to build community and strengthen connections.
We support youth by providing enriching events and opportunities that offers stimulating social environments and activities which help them thrive and grow.
Employment & Educational Opportunities
Employment & Educational Community Building is available to help our residents reach their career goals. We provide connections to job and financial coaches, as well as connections to local community and technical colleges. We also host job fairs and drop-in events where residents are connected to income supports (utility, rental, transportation, childcare and food assistance).
Aging & Disability
Aging & Disability Community Building promotes activities help residents stay physically and mentally active, while promoting creativity. Neighbors are encouraged to share their unique skills and talents within their community. Activities include arts and crafts, exercise classes, potlucks, coffee hours and other activities that residents request.
