Housing Authorities: Essential Partners in Ending Homelessness
Housing authorities have always assisted households previously experiencing or at risk of homelessness through housing subsidies that enable extremely low-income households to afford their homes. Increasingly, housing authorities are also bringing their subsidies into partnerships with the homeless services system. This has led to more targeted efforts to address homelessness, including the development of permanent supportive housing for populations with specific service needs, sponsor-based vouchers, and the dedication of resources to evidence-based practices such as rapid rehousing. As demonstrated by the work in this publication, housing authorities are truly essential partners in ending homelessness.
