Arlington Drive Youth Campus Recognized as Best Supportive/Transitional Housing at Pacific Coast Builders Conference

June 23, 2021

The Tacoma Housing Authority property was recognized at the 2021 Golden Nugget Awards

TACOMA, WA – June 23, 2021-During a virtual ceremony on June 16th, the Tacoma Housing Authority’s (THA) Arlington Drive Youth Campus won the Golden Nugget award in the ‘Best Supportive/Transitional Housing’ category. Celebrating its 58th year, the Golden Nugget Awards, the premier event of the annual Pacific Coast Builders Conference (PCBC), recognizes leaders in innovative architecture, planning, and construction concepts that solve fundamental building industry needs.

THA’s Arlington Drive Campus for Homeless Youth and Young Adults is dedicated to the proposition that the homelessness of young people is both intolerable and solvable. The solution looks like Arlington Drive. This shows in its expert on-site supportive services from THA’s excellent service partners. This shows in the warm embrace Arlington Drive received from the City of Tacoma and Pierce County, from the Mayor and County Executive to the neighbors. The solution shows in Arlington Drive’s lovely design. That design makes clear to these young people that they are important, that they are valuable, and that they are worth everything it takes to create something like Arlington Drive. THA is grateful to the many partners that made Arlington Drive possible.

The selecting committee was filled with the industry’s top designers, planners, and builders. Jurors selected one grand winner in various categories related to building and design, out of approximately 600 U.S. and international entries.

The recognition comes after years of planning and development by the Tacoma Housing Authority, culminating in a December 2020 grand opening of the property. Tacoma Housing Authority designed the Arlington Apartments for young adults, 18 to 24 years old, who are experiencing homelessness, transitioning from foster care, or are on the threshold of homelessness.
