| | What is Community and Supportive Services? The Salishan Community and Supportive Services (CSS) plan promotes educational involvement, facilitates resident employment, job retention and wage progression, creates innovative communication strategies and sustains community life. Community and Supportive Services is a component of the HOPE VI revitalization project, funded by the Department of Housing and Urban Development. Community and Supportive Services emphasize hope, opportunity and upward mobility for current Salishan residents by promoting education and employment, and community involvement. The Community and Supportive Services program can help Salishan residents find solutions to overcome barriers, so they can move forward toward their success in economic independence. What can Community and Supportive Services provide? The CSS plan promotes educational involvement for all residents, preschool through adult, and across the full learning spectrum - Adult Basic Education and English as a Second Language through college-level instruction. Job skills training will focus on employment opportunities in the construction trades and information technology. Residents will be linked to employment opportunities through Tacoma Housing Authority's resident employment pool on site. For current and former Salishan residents: We provide pre-employment assistance. We provide training and education assistance. We help you obtain your GED or High School diploma. We provide you with information on how to own your own home. We provide information on what it takes to own your own business. We help you prepare for the HOPE VI transition. Our caseworkers are billingual and speak Cambodian, Russian and Vietnamese. We provide useful information and resources available to assist you. What is the Community and Supportive Services goal? Our goal is to provide you with information and referrals to assist you to achieve success in economic independence. Counseling, after school and camp programs, life skills workshops and intensive case management will support our residents in identifying and achieving their job retention and advancement goals. Agencies providing these services on site include the Bates Technical College, Northwest Leadership Foundation, Washington Women's Employment & Education, Pierce County WorkSource, and THA's Family Self-Sufficiency Program.
