On August 12, 2009, THA, the City of Tacoma, the many people and organizations who are building New Salishan, and the residents who have made it their home, cut the ribbon on Phase 2. This phase will include:

270 rental units, most of which are finished and occupied. The remainder will be done by the end of 2009


180 single family homes to sale, which private home builders will develop


A medical/dental clinic, which is complete and operating


An education, training and retail center, with a public library, a child care center, a grocery store and a credit union. This is scheduled to start construction in 2010.


A 55 unit apartment building reserved for seniors, which will also start construction in 2010.

Phase 2 is one of three construction phases. Phase 3 is set to complete in 2011

Senator Patty Murray, Congressman Norm Dicks and Senator Debbie Regala led the ribbon cutting program. The speakers also included Lisa Miller. Ms. Miller and her children are new residents of New Salishan. Ms. Miller also represents Salishan on the board of the Eastside Neighborhood Advisory Council (ENACT).
